Cosmetic Tattoo FAQ's
Permanent makeup, also known as cosmetic tattooing, is a specialised technique where pigments are implanted just beneath the skin's surface to create long-lasting enhancements to facial features. Permanent makeup is tailored to each client, considering skin tone, facial structure, and personal style, and is performed by trained artists using advanced tools and specialised pigments to ensure safe and beautiful results. Cosmetic Tattooing is semi-permanent, with most results lasting from 3-5 years.
While it’s suitable for most people, there are certain factors that mean we can’t treat everyone. Before undergoing treatment, clients are always made aware that certain contraindications can prevent us from proceeding with a tattoo. You cannot receive cosmetic tattooing if you are pregnant. Yes, absolutely. All procedures are performed by a qualified professional who follows proper hygiene and sanitation protocols. All needles are sterile for individual use and are fully disposed after each use. All pigments used are excellent quality and are specifically designed for implantation into human skin. All equipment and surfaces are disinfected and sterilised before and after every client.
The pain of the treatment varies from person to person but is usually minimal to none for most clients! A high-grade, topical anaesthetic will be applied during the procedure to numb the area and ease any discomfort. Sensitive clients may require longer numbing but the sensation is tolerable.
Brows: We have a wide range of pigments to suit each individual clients' natural skin tone and hair colour, and you can choose to go darker if you wish. We will collaborate together on the best choice for you.
Eyeliner: Depending on the desired outcome you are wanting to achieve, we can start with a soft brown through to an ultra black - please keep in mind that brown will generally fade a lot quicker than black.
For the best results, please ensure that the treated area is healthy, moisturised, and free from irritations prior to your procedure. If your skin is dry, irritated or “flared up,” it can affect the procedure and cause uneven results. Avoid caffeine and alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Most procedures take between 1.5 to 3 hours. This includes time to discuss the procedure details and answer any questions that the client may have about the tattoo process and the after-care. We then allocate time to map out the brow or liner shape accurately, and perform the initial tattoo.
Firstly, you will look amazing! There may be temporary redness from slight inflammation directly after the procedure. This will subside after an hour or so. Your permanent makeup may intensify in colour and appear darker and more defined for the first 3-5 days. It will possibly appear darkest the next day, then start to lighten up as it heals.
It’s generally recommended to avoid wearing makeup directly on the treated area for at least 7-10 days after cosmetic tattooing. Newly tattooed skin is sensitive, and makeup ingredients can cause irritation or introduce bacteria to the area, increasing the risk of infection. Applying makeup on the treated area can affect pigment retention and may cause premature fading or uneven healing. We recommend booking your tattoo the week prior to, or after, any important social plans.
Your tattoo can take about 3-4 weeks to completely heal.
There may be a bit of itchiness and a slight bit of peeling which is completely normal, and not visibly noticeable. More info on healing and tattoo aftercare can be found here:
The results are semi-permanent and can last anywhere from 3-5 years, in some cases even longer. Results can vary depending on the service, skin type, and lifestyle. Proper aftercare of your tattoo is important is an important factor in maintaining the longevity of your tattoo. An annual touch up appointment should be scheduled to boost the colour and is recommended if you like the look of darker and more defined brows or liner, and to keep the colour fresh.
Yes, a touch up appointment, or 'perfecting session' is required 6-8 weeks after your initial tattoo, as the final result is achieved over 2 sessions.
During the initial healing process, the skin may naturally shed some pigment, leading to lighter or uneven colour in certain areas. A touch-up corrects this, helping the pigment settle evenly, and extends the overall life of your tattoo before requiring further maintenance.
It is recommended to book in a Colour Boost appointment with your technician 12-24 months after your initial tattoo. This is to maintain the desired colour and shape. Some clients may prefer more regular touch-ups to keep their tattoo looking fresh, while others may wait longer if they’re comfortable with softer, more faded results over time.
